The Food Pantry is open to the public from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and our volunteers are very important during that time to make sure our guests are greeted warmly and served efficiently by people who genuinely care about their well being. We invite you to participate in this experience!
To be ready for those intense periods of food distribution during which hundreds of people come to our door, many hours of preparation are required throughout the week.
- We need responsible, dependable drivers to take our rental vehicle to pick up the weekly order of food from GCFD. We also have many smaller pickups from local providers who donate items that we cannot get from GCFD.
- We need people to unload the truck and stock the shelves.
- We need people to help fill the bags prior to and during the Open Hours.
We invite you to participate in this experience. The only request here is that you especially plan your first serve ahead of time with us. Space is very limited in our little 1,000 square foot bungalow, particularly when the pantry is open. We want to make sure your time is a great experience!
There are also many other tasks that need to be done at the pantry. Cleaning inside the pantry and grooming outside. Organizing clothing and other donated items. Attending to an occasional maintenance task. If these activities are a good fit for you, we invite you to participate in this experience.
Additionally, our Aquaponics Farm is right next to the pantry. It is so new that we can’t even itemize the needs here right now, but there will always be something at each stage of its development, whether planting, maintaining, harvesting or preparing for delivery. If you want to be part of developing a sustainable food source for this community, we invite you to participate in this experience.
Finally, we love our prayer warriors. Ongoing prayers for this ministry are absolutely essential. Everything on the list above needs prayer and all the people responsible for the pantry especially appreciate it. Pray for the people of the community who visit the pantry. Pray for strength, wisdom, health, endurance, joy, compassion. We invite you to participate in this experience. True you can pray from anywhere, but please do let us know that you have committed to praying for Shepherd’s HOPE.
